Here are some samples of what can be done using the latest Rapid E-Learning authoring
tools, and comments on what makes each tool particularly useful.

Adobe Captivate - Especially useful for teaching software interaction.
Can present this as a demo, as a test of the learner's ability to
navigate, or as a hybrid between the two.  Captivate can record
dynamic screen activity in real time, or it can reduce learner download
times with event-based recording.  In this sample, I use a custom
Captivate mode to walk the learner through a software interaction in
an engaging manner.

Adobe Photoshop - For precise creation and editing of raster graphics
and limited vector graphic editing, you can't beat Photoshop.  I use
Photoshop for all of my photo and bitmap image editing and
manipulation.  It can do anything from automatically cropping a large
group of images to a precisely specified uniform size, to making subtle
changes to specific areas within an image.  Click on the logo at left to
see a title graphic I created using Photoshop.

Adobe Soundbooth - Soundbooth is a digital audio editor that makes it
simple to create professional quality multitrack recordings.  I use it for
recording all voiceovers, and for mixing voice and music in the
proportions appropriate for any moment in the learning experience.
Before clicking on the icon at left for a sample, check that your audio
mute is off and that your volume is adjusted.

Articulate Presenter - Quickly converts e-Learning-oriented PowerPoint
content to Flash, synchronizes voiceover, animations and annotations,
and packages and delivers content in a learner-friendly player.  Click
on the icon at left to see a course I developed using Articulate
Presenter as the "container" and delivery mechanism.

Quizmaker - Excellent at creating a variety of interactive and engaging
quizzes and surveys.  Produces attractive Flash content, and is SCORM
compliant for reporting to the LMS.  Lets you incorporate images with
freeform editing, along with audio, branching and automation.
Importantly, allows you to provide helpful feedback to a learner who
misses a question.

Articulate Engage - Encourages learners to interact with new concepts.
I use Engage to introduce course navigation and product navigation,
to allow the learner to interrupt training to clarify terminology or
procedures, and to review step-by-step procedures.  Click the icon at
left for a sample glossary of terms I built using Engage.

Trivantis Lectora - Perhaps the most flexible and powerful rapid
elearning development tool available, Lectora provides significant
flexibility to handle a wide variety of performance improvement
requirements.  Because its output is in HTML rather than in Flash, its
appearance isn't as slick as, say, Articulate Presenter.
